What it is meant to be
KernID is described as a personal identity kernel that unifies a person's digital life under one authentication system. Instead of many passwords and scattered profiles, a person signs in once and reaches their accounts, digital events and transaction history through a single encrypted vault. The user decides what to share, with whom and for how long.
The stated design goal is that KernID authenticates and records activity without ever taking custody of passwords or private keys. In the founder's framing, "Kern" is the core and "ID" is identity: the minimal structure that makes a person addressable, verifiable and continuable across systems. It sits in the fourth dimension and reaches into the fifth, because identity is the precondition of possibility.

Its place
KernID anchors the other infrastructure: Meridian and Aevum need subjects, and the W5D UUID needs something to identify. Read the founder's text: The Mission of KernID, Aevum, Meridian, and UUID.
