Dimensions
Five dimensions, with time kept as a measure.
The first three are space. The fourth is Information/Structure. The fifth is Possibility/Modality. This is the official definition W5D adopts, offered as a working ontology and not as a universal claim.
Why not time?
The founder was taught that space is three-dimensional and time is the fourth. On inspection that looked like a convention of calculation rather than a description of being: time measures change, it does not constitute a thing. W5D therefore treats time as "a relational metric, not an ontological axis". It is not denied as a parameter of measurement.
The fourth: Information/Structure
Every entity, process or system has an architecture: a code, a pattern, a law, a protocol. Matter without structure is noise; energy without information is chaos. Information is not only communication but ontological: it determines what can exist, how it interacts and what it can become.
In IT this is data structures, algorithms and protocols. In sciences it is laws, symmetries, constants and models. In technology it is the blueprint that precedes actualisation. The fourth dimension is the architecture of the actual.
The fifth: Possibility/Modality
A system is never only what it is; it is also what it can become. The fifth dimension is the space of possible states, variations and outcomes. It resonates with the philosophical position called Five-Dimensionalism, in which objects have modal parts stretched across possible worlds.
It is not fantasy. It is constrained by the fourth, because structure defines the boundaries of possibility. But possibility also exceeds structure, because new structures can emerge. It is the horizon of the not-yet.
One map
Every dimension claim on this site resolves to the tables below. Where other mappings appear in older drafts, this one wins.
The five dimensions
| No. | Dimension | What it is | Where it shows |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Length | Spatial extension. | Geometry, the first axis of space. |
| 2 | Width | Spatial extension. | Geometry, the second axis of space. |
| 3 | Depth | Spatial extension. | Geometry, the third axis of space. |
| 4 | Information/Structure | The architecture of the actual: code, pattern, law, protocol. | IT: data structures, algorithms, protocols. Sciences: laws, symmetries, models. Technology: the blueprint. |
| 5 | Possibility/Modality | The horizon of the not-yet: states, variations and outcomes a system could reach. | Sciences map possibility spaces; technology actualises selected possibilities into new structures. |
The three operators
| Operator | Layer | Dimension in operation | Institution or programme |
|---|---|---|---|
| Meta | Reflexive | 4th: Information/Structure | MetaX Academy |
| Macro | Systemic | 5th: Possibility/Modality, at scale | MacroLifeTech (Meta-X) |
| Beyond | Generative | The condition of possibility for both | BCIA, the first research programme from the beyond |
